If Those That Sleep Were Real

To those that heard, they were only words
(And for their ideas they will reep).
For the lonely Mer, words were only birds
And still, beneath-wave, they sleep.

Time will tell if they bring Hell
(Deep Ones chompin’ at our feet)
But it’s just as well, livin’ under their spell
Than at the mercy of our own conceit.

Oh woh. Time will tell. Time can speak.
Time’s got words only Time has seen.
The blood runs blue–the sky runs red.
Old Ones are sleeping in our heads.

To the shaky might of our insight
(I couldn’t have known from the start.)
Things weren’t right in anyone’s eyes
And there were stirrings in our heart.

The Greats’ motion out of our ocean
Left us baffled and mean.
But under that commotion sat a notion
That we couldn’t yet fully glean.

Oh woh. Time will tell. Time can speak.
Time’s got words only Time can read.
When blood runs blue–the sky runs red.
The Old Ones are sleepin’ in our beds.

Our children slide right under their knives
(and who would we be if we cared?)
We stay in line, until the end of our lives
But we never forget those stares.

One day we’ll rise when Time is ripe.
(We’ll Trojan horse our cities.)
One day we’ll all ride out the “losing side”
And Old or Great–we’ll’ve no pity.

Oh, but Time will tell. Time can speak.
Time’s got words only Time has seen.
When blood runs blue–the sky runs red.
And Old Ones, beneath wave, they’ll be dead.
